Something special has been brewing on Sunday afternoons in Johannesburg, and the Five6seven8 swing community gets to be part of it. Thanks to the generosity of DJ Paizinho, who hosts a beloved weekly afrolatin party at Octo Bar every Sunday from 3pm, we have been given a dedicated hour to bring West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop to the floor before the party kicks into full gear.
It is a genuinely warm arrangement. DJ Paizinho and the Octo Bar community have welcomed us with open arms, and once our swing hour wraps up at 4pm, everyone is welcome to stay on and enjoy the afrolatin vibes that the venue is known for. The party typically picks up from around 5pm, so there is plenty of reason to stick around.
About Octo Bar and DJ Paizinho
Octo Bar is the home of a thriving weekly afrolatin social scene in Johannesburg. Every Sunday from 3pm, DJ Paizinho brings the energy with afrolatin music that builds through the afternoon and into the evening. By 5pm the dancefloor is alive with salsa, bachata, and everything in between.
DJ Paizinho has been incredibly kind in carving out the 3 to 4pm slot for our swing community, giving us a real home base to dance on a proper floor in a welcoming social setting. If you love social dance in any form, Octo Bar on a Sunday is a place worth knowing about.
What to Expect at Swing Sundays
From 3pm to 4pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month, we take over the floor with swing music and open social dancing. Both West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop are welcome, and the vibe is relaxed and inclusive. No partner needed, no experience required to come along and give it a try.

- All levels welcome – whether you are a seasoned social dancer or just curious, come as you are
- Stay for the afrolatin party – from 4pm the floor transitions to DJ Paizinho’s weekly session, picking up pace from around 5pm

Social dance is at its best when different communities share a floor, and Octo Bar on a Sunday afternoon is proof of that. We are grateful to DJ Paizinho for making space for us, and we would love to see as many Five6seven8 dancers there as possible.
